ABOUT THE SABAR & TALKING DRUMS

SABAR DRUM

Sabar is the style of music using this traditional drum from the West African nation of Senegal and Gambia.  Generally it is played with one hand and one stick.
Natives used it to communicate to other villages as the  different rhythms correspond to phrases and could be heard for over 15 kilometres.

As an art form, it produces rhythmic music when skilfully played.

Kawspn Secka,  a master drummer, percussionist and drum builder, states  “The power of Sabar rhythm is to transcend boundaries and bring people together.”

TALKING DRUM

Talking drum is an extraordinary percussion instrument that holds great significance in various cultures around the world.  The talking drum is an hourglass-shaped drum from West Africa, whose pitch can be regulated to mimic the tone and patterns of rhythm and sounds in human speech or humming. It has two drumheads connected by leather tension cords, which allow the player to change the pitch of the drum by scraping the cords between their arm and body. to play whole phrases.  Messages can travel up to 20 miles (32 km), where other drummers can relay them, thereby quickly spreading news.

the talking drum is my favourite drum. It serves as a resonating voicehconn3cting communities and preserving cultural heritage through its 4gythmic language and expressiv3 capabilities.
